Contest! Win a Leapfrog Tag Reading System

It's time for another giveaway! This one is awesome - a Leapfrog Tag system, with the Cat and the Hat, and two bonus books ($78 value). I'm joining forces with 9 other blogs, so you actually have ten (yes 10) chances to win.

Have you seen these Tag systems? It's a smart "pen" you use with specially configured books (like Olivia, Cat in the Hat, Star Wars and Spiderman). The tag pen can read the book aloud and let the user play (educational) games. And the kids won't realize it, but they're actually learning. Shhhh. Don't tell them.

The Tag Reading System so far has won 28 awards in 6 countries and the Toy Industry Association named it the Best Educational Toy of 2009. It’s also the best-selling reading system in the world.

Sarah at Parenting by Trial and Error wrote an excellent review of Tag system. Please read it and tell her I sent you. She organized this blog giveaway,

Tag Systems are targeted at kids ages 4-8. We won the Tag system when Sarah did her last giveaway. To be honest, I planned to give it to my younger niece, but then decided to keep it for Zachary, who was 5 at the time. He loves it.

What's interesting about Tag: By periodically connecting the Tag pen to my computer system, Leapfrog updates our account and send me emails about what's Zachary has done on the books. It tells me which books he read, how many times, what games he played and how he did in those games (good for all you competitve parents who want to be sure your child is getting 100% scores). In the email, Leapfrog tells you what areas your child might want to focus on, and offer sales pitches on products you can buy to accomplish that. Well, that's the cynical part of me.

Of course if Zachary's sister uses the Tag, all bets are off as to whose progress we're tracking.

I have been looking at these as a way to help my autistic son learn how to read. The pen looks like it may also help with fine motor skills.

  2. I would like to win this leapfrog because I trust the leapfrog name. They make wonderful products and I believe that this system could help my son who struggles with reading. They offer some great books and I believe that this will be a valuable tool in helping him reach his full potential.

  8. Hi Debbie,

I wanted to post a comment on the Frisco Kids for quite some time now, but after seeing this post about the "Leapfrog Tag reading system", I think its best time to send in my comments about how great is your blog.
When we (my wife & myself) did not have a kid, we used to keep a calendar schedule of events for adults, like air-shows, special Thur/Fri/Sat night dance parties, visits to Nearby places, etc. Then after our first kid came in 2006, we were grounded for around 2 years. Now since the spring, we again started going out - but now mainly to kid centric places - and let me tell you - Frisco Kids has provided what I had been looking for since last year - single stop location to plan for the weekends and sometimes weekdays too.
Recently our kid had lots of fun at the San Mateo county fair, the Circus Bella in SF, his first "Balling" experience on long weekend, etc., etc. - a BIGGGGG THANKS to you !!
    Keep it up !!!

  22. We love this system at our house & definitely need at least one more...I have a rule that the BIG kids are not allowed to play the games in the 4 yr olds phonics books....I really like being able to track what she understands from her actual results

  26. We love reading to our daughter and have been reading to her since she was less than a year old (she is now six). She loves to be read to and she likes reading when someone is watching over her shoulders but she does not like independent reading. It would be great to have the LeapFrog reader to help her gain a love for independent reading. I can envision her getting stuck on some words and using the pen to help her get through the tough parts. While I would still love to continue read to her, I hope this can also inspire to read on her own.

I also have boy/girl twins who are just shy of two, I would love to try to use this system with them too and hopefully create a foundation for a love of reading.
