Coming Up: Reopening of Paxton's Gate - Fun Free Events all Week

Paxton Gates Curiosities for Kids looks like a VERY cool store for kids' toys, games and decor. Take a look at the store photos on their website and you'll see what I mean.

They're celebrating a reopening with a week of special entertainment, free activities and big discounts starting Monday, July 5 and ending with a big party on Sunday, July 11. (address at the bottom)
Here's what's going on:

Mask-Making
Monday, July 5th, from 2 to 4 pm
Mask-making with local mixed media artist Michele Menard. They supply the paper, yarn and repurposed craft scraps and let the kids take their imagination out for nice test drive as they design and make masks that are fun, scary, happy, or any other mood that might strike them. And best of all, they can take the masks home afterwards.
Daily Discount Special: 15% off all craft kits and supplies

Musical Workshop
Tuesday, July 6th, from 2 to 4 pm
Musical workshop hosted by Lauren Cobb. Paxton Gate will supply instruments but kids that already have them are encouraged to bring their own as well. Lauren will perform and even orchestrate a call & response routine with the youngsters.
Daily Discount Special: 15% off all musical instruments

Live Veterinarian Demonstration
Wednesday, July 7th, from 2 to 4 pm
Learn what it takes to be a veterinarian from Dr. Curtis Press of Mission Pet Hospital. Dr. Press will bring live animals (and not just cats and dogs ); kids will be able to listen to heart beats, discover what makes the critters tick, and explore the other things that vets do. Who knows, a kid attending this might end up applying to UC Davis.
Daily Discount Special: 15% off all plush toys

Story Time with Lisa Tharpe, author of P is for Please – A Bestiary of Manners
Thursday, July 8th, from 11 am to 12 pm
It’s never too early (or late for that matter) to learn some manners. Local writer Lisa Tharpe will read from her wily and charming book, P is for Please – A Bestiary of Manners, on manners and etiquette and sign copies (it’s only polite, after all).
Daily Discount Special: 15% off all books

Cow Eye Dissections with Maranda Quigley
Friday, July 9th, from 2 to 4 pm
Kids seem to love gross things, and dissecting a cow eye probably fits that bill for many, but it’s also a great lesson about how the miraculous things we take for granted actually work. As the old saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as Maranda Quigley is the daughter of Paxton Gate owner, Sean Quigley.
Daily Discount Special: 15% off all science products and science kits

CHOMP! The Conservatory of Flowers’ Fly Trap Theater
Saturday, July 10, from 2 to 4 pm
Paxton Gate brings the Conservatory of Flowers’ Fly Trap Theater out of Golden Gate Park and into the Mission! The Fly Trap Theater is a fun presentation by the Conservatory of Flowers’ own knowledgeable and friendly tour guides! Learn why and how carnivorous plants are different from other plants, what areas in the world produce plants that eat bugs, why they hunt, and how they attack! Carnivorous plants will be dissected, their trapping mechanisms looked at up close and personally, in order to learn about the different adaptations these creatures use to lure tasty bug dinners into their plant jaws! After uncovering the mysteries of the carnivorous plants in the Fly Trap Theater, you'll create your own bug and plant puppets replicating traps seen in nature that use gummy slime, sticky stalks, hairy triggers, and dark mazes - or using our imaginations to create totally new carnivorous creatures!

Grand Re-Opening Party
Sunday, July 11th, from 11 am to 3 pm
The so-called grand re-opening celebration invites kids and adults to enjoy a day of free snacks, activities and entertainment:
--Stilt walkers will strut their stuff on the new, sparkly, practically boulevard wide sidewalk
--A troop of happy (as opposed to scary) clowns will play games and pranks
