It's great to teach the kids to give, not just get, during the holiday season. Here are some ideas on how to do that.
TOYS FOR TOTS
Many drop-off locations including
--Hillsdale Mall, San Mateo - December 1-22 (10 a.m. to 8 p.m. across from Bath and Body Works in lower level - new and used toys accepted)
--San Mateo Fire Stations - starting November 25th (new and used toys accepted)
--Caltrain Headquarters (1250 San Carlos Ave., San Carlos) through December 6
--Various locations/dates through San Bruno's Toys for Tots organization
Second Harvest Food Bank
Jewish Family & Children's Service
San Francisco Food Bank
ONE WARM COAT DRIVE
Donate your unneeded coats to those who do need them. Find a drop-off location at One Warm Coat.
Adopt a family for the holidays, create a gift basket, hold a gift drive, prepare and serve holiday dinners, or just donate to help those trying to get back on their feet, through the Shelter Network.
PROJECT OPEN HAND
the Jewish Family & Children's Service volunteers and members of Congregation Sha'ar Zahav are preparing and delivering meals for Project Open Hand on December 24 & 25th. To help or learn more, call 415-449-1288 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
JEWISH VOLUNTEER DAY
Wednesday, December 8th is the 4th annual Jewish Volunteer Day at the Project Homeless Connect, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's a San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. Get details or sign up by calling 415-977-7444 or email email@example.com or register here.
I'll continue updating this during the season, so check back and add your own ideas in the comments section.
