Bay Area Summer Camps 2015

I've been behind on organizing my own kids' summer camps this year. But it's not too late to sign up for camp still. Today we're going to highlight some interesting camps to check out.

SAN FRANCISCO
Butterfly Joint - this new woodworking camp in San Francisco offers week-long sessions with objects to make like necklaces, wooden boxes, floating bookshelves and stools. Camps are small, limited to 15 students each.
Ages: 4-12
Times: 9-3
Where: Mission district

Take My Word For It - this writing class/camp focuses on creating self portraits with words
Ages: incoming 6-8th grade
Times: June 1-5; from 1:30-5
Where: private home in San Francisco;

Renegade Girls Tinkering Club - learn hands-on science with fun experiments and STEM work. Only a few spots left.
Ages: 6-10
Times: 9-3 with optional after care
Where: San Francisco


San Francisco Art Institute offers a young artist program where kids learn different art techniques.
Ages: 13-15
Times: half day sessions; July 27-August 14
Where: San Francisco

PENINSULA
Laurel Street Arts - These craft camps include pottery and glass fusing projects, in addition to others like mosaics, polymer clay, weaving and soap making.
Ages: incoming grades 2-8
Times: half days
Where: San Carlos

Hiller Aviation Museum is doing Aviation Day Camp, which is great for almost all ages. They'll do projects related to engineering, flight, drone design, and space craft.
Ages: incoming K-8, with high school volunteer spots available.
Times: half day and full day, with extended hours available
Where: San Carlos

La Toque de Cindy Cooking School - this camp teaches kids cooking skills and they'll make some scrumptious foods too. Sign up soon - many of the sessions are sold out.
Ages: 6-15
Times: half-day
Where: Palo Alto private home

SOUTH BAY
Children's Discovery Museum - the Summer of Service program offers two week sessions where kids will travel to service sites in the area to volunteer, with field trips on Fridays
Ages: incoming grades 7-10
Times: 8:45-3:30 (Friday is a little longer); extended care available.
Where: San Jose

International Culinary Center offers professional-level cooking and pastry classes for teens. These week-long sessions look fabulous but they're super expensive at $1,550 for a week.
Ages: 13-18
Times: 9-2
Where: Campbell

EAST BAY
Bay Area Children's Theater offers two week performance camps
Ages: incoming K-8
Where: Alameda, Piedmont, San Ramon

Habitot - this preschool museum is offering 10 weeks of camp this summer.
Ages: 2.5-5
Times: mostly half days, though at the end of the summer you can do full days.
Where: Berkeley
