Memorial Day with Kids Bay Area 2013

What are you doing for Memorial Day? We're going camping. Here are some ideas for you if you're staying local:

SF ZOO - Hullabuzoo
See the animals AND join a performing circus group. They'll have an inflatable obstacle course and climbing wall challenge. Highlights include a circus performance on Patas Lawn and inflatable bounce house plus basketball hoop in the Pacyderm building.
When: May 25-27 from 11-4
Cost: free with zoo admission; $3/person for climbing wall (though they'll donate $1 to animal conservation programs every time someone gets to the top and rings a bell.

Treasure Island Flea Market
Celebrate the Treasure Island Flea Market's 2nd birthday by visiting! They're having some festive games and activities, including magicians, hula hooping competitions, retro pinball and other things. Learn how to make goat milk soap from one of the vendors. Go for regular admission, or upgrade for the celebration package. For $20 you get admission for two, two chef's specials from the food trucks, two flight of wine samples, and discounts on additional wine tastings or purchases.
When: May 25-26 from 10-4
Cost: $3/person. Free for kids under 12. Free parking and dog friendly.




Bay Area Kid Fest
Activities, games, shows, sports, food, vendors, artists, carnival rides etc. Games are included in admission price (rides and food are extra). I want to see the monkey show and go ziplining!
When: May 25-27 from 10-6
Where: Mt. Diablo High School, Concord
Cost: $6/person, or $5/person with canned food donation

Conservatory of Flowers
See their Butterflies and Blooms exhibit, including butterflies in various stages of transformation. They may even land on you!
When: through October 20. Tuesdays through Sundays, 10-4:30
Cost: $2-7/person age 5+, discounts for SF residents.

Carnaval San Francisco
The parade is on Sunday, but the party is all weekend long.
When: May 25-26
Cost: free

Roaring Camp's Civil War Reenactment
Who doesn't love a Civil War reenactment? This Felton gem (near Santa Cruz) has all kinds of fun events and train rides. Learn a little history and take a walk in the Redwoods. Then go to the Santa Cruz boardwalk if you have time.
When: May 25-27 various times
Cost: online tickets are $22/kids, $28/adults including reenactment and train ride

Blue Star Families Program
Are you or someone you love an active military member? If so, you can get free admission to many museums from Memorial day through Labor Day weekend. Check here for more info on the Blue Star program. And thank you to our troops for your service! Some Bay Area participants are Habitot in Berkeley, Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo, the Walt Disney Family Museum in SF, CuriOdyssey in San Mateo, Bay Area Discover Museum in Sausalito, and the Lindsay Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek.
