Playland-NOT-at-the-beach (emphasis mine). This play area in El Cerrito, has free arcade and carnival games, plus exhibits and shows. It's housed in a 9,000 square foot building, and is a testament to old-time beach boardwalks (without the rides).Get your pinball wizard on - they have 30 pinball machines set to free play. This is no corporate-loving place - it's a volunteer-built/run, nonprofit place. They have special weekend events, including this weekend, with magician Magical Nathaniel.
While Playland-not-at-the-beach is fun for almost everyone, it's not recommended for kids under age 3. Too intense and maybe scary.
While most of the games are free (once you're in the door), there is a cost to enter. Groupon has a deal this weekend with two options: $5 admission for kids 14 and younger, and those 55 and older - or $7 general admission (prices are half-off for both groups). You can buy 5 tickets per person, and 5 as gifts for other. They expire 12/31/11 (more than a year away).
